Coincidence or Synchronicity?

How many times have so called ‘coincidences’ happened to you and everything has worked out as you had wished, despite all the odds? Probably more often than you think, but you didn’t really notice. However, there are those who do not believe in coincidences and would prefer to call it synchronicity.

Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961) made a significant contribution to the psychoanalytical movement, before establishing himself in spiritual psychology and the spiritual development of the self. He coined the term synchronicity, to express the concept of a significant or meaningful coincidence between two phenomena/events that are acausal connected (related by meaning rather than causation).

I experienced this just recently and can only describe it as something just short of a miracle. My grandson was due to be born and, I had agreed to be the ‘taxi service’ and on hand support at the birth, if needed. Other unforeseen events in my life conspired to say ‘this is not going to happen’ and I had no control over the outcome. My initial reaction? Aaargh!!!! Once I recovered from my minor ‘meltdown’, I put my spiritual practice to work and began to accept the situation, I couldn’t control it and so I did what I have done in the past, I handed everything over to a higher power to seek a solution. I let go of my attachment to the outcome.

A couple of weeks later, I was making decisions about when I could manage a couple of days back home again, weighing up the different options. Decision made, I returned home…. later that evening, my ‘taxi service’ was required – false alarm. Early hours of the next morning, ‘taxi service’ again and this time it came with the addition of me being present at my grandson’s birth, the most amazing experience ever!!

Coincidence or Synchronicity?

Who knows? All I know is that I have immense gratitude to whoever or whatever orchestrated it, the timing was perfect. Maybe there are lessons here for all of us in our busy lives, as we continually try to control things and become attached to outcomes, creating stress for ourselves and others in the process. So, starting today, step back, make some space and let go. Allow events to unfold and maybe the outcome will be even better than the one you had originally intended, as it was for me. That’s not to say that we just sit back and say ‘whatever…’, we can still set our intentions and when we let go of our attachment to the outcome, we can enjoy the journey of life much better. I have huge trust in the process and my money’s on Synchronicity every time.
